Title: Need help – HP DAG3HIMB8C0 Rev.C motherboard / BIOS update failed, no power, no LEDs

Hello everyone,

I have an HP Pavilion Gaming 15 laptop with the following motherboard:
Motherboard reference: DAG3HIMB8C0 Rev:C
Platform: Quanta G3HI

Recently, I attempted to update the BIOS through HP's official tool, but unfortunately, the process went wrong.
During the update, the laptop suddenly powered off, even though it was connected to AC power and had the battery installed.

Since that failed update:

The laptop is completely dead (no power, no fan spin, no LEDs).

Previously, before this issue, at least the white/orange charging LED would light up when the charger was plugged in. Now there’s no LED activity at all.

After doing some research, I learned that some HP motherboards have two separate BIOS chips:

1. Main BIOS (UEFI) – handles CPU initialization, boot process, etc.

2. EC BIOS (Embedded Controller) – controls power, battery, fans, keyboard, and LED indicators.

I need your help to clarify the following:

Are both the Main BIOS and EC BIOS combined in the same chip, or are they stored on two different SPI chips on this specific motherboard?

If there are two separate chips, could you please show me the exact locations on the DAG3HIMB8C0 Rev:C board?

This way, I can flash the correct component first and hopefully bring the laptop back to life.

Additional information:

I have already identified a GigaDevice GD25LQ128DSIG (1.8V) SOIC-8 chip, which I believe to be the Main BIOS.

I own a CH341A programmer with a 1.8V adapter and a SOIC8 clip, so I can read/write the BIOS directly.

I just want to make sure I’m targeting the correct chip before proceeding, especially if there is also a separate EC BIOS.

Any help, pictures, or schematics showing which chip is the Main BIOS and which is the EC BIOS would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist me in identifying the correct chips and procedure to revive this board.

Best regards,

For confirmation we need old bios because there are 2 or 3 types bios in this model like the bios above is BID 088DD we need confirmation for your old bios if same then it will work but if not same then we"ll build new for you but same as your old bios

Subject: Confirmation of BIOS BID “088DD” + My BIOS Backup Attached

Hello,

Confirming your request: my previous/stock BIOS is indeed BID “088DD.”
I downloaded it from HP’s support site, and the package includes two files named with “088DD”—one .bin and one .sig.

I’ve also attached my BIOS backup (SPI dump) from the current board for your reference.
If “088DD” matches your reference, please proceed. If you determine my unit needs a different build, kindly generate a new image based on my backup so that system-specific data (UUID/serial/DMI/MAC, etc.) are preserved.

Attachments:

  • 088DD BIOS files from HP: *.bin and *.sig (original package)
  • My BIOS backup (SPI dump): *.bin
Thanks,
Stéphane

Subject: BIOS BID “088DD” Confirmation + Backup & Flashing Capability

As noted, my previous/stock BIOS is BID “088DD.” I downloaded it from HP’s support site; the package includes two files named with “088DD” (.bin and .sig). I’ve also attached my BIOS backup (SPI dump) from the current board.
If “088DD” matches your reference, please proceed. Otherwise, please build a new image based on my backup so system-specific data (UUID/serial/DMI/MAC, etc.) are preserved.
Attachments:
  • 088DD HP package: *.bin and *.sig

Subject: Sorry for the French—here’s my question in English (EC BIOS vs Main BIOS on DAG3HIMB8C0 Rev:C)

Hi,

Apologies—the page auto-translated and I didn’t realize I posted in French. Here’s my message in English:

I’ve already downloaded and flashed the older BIOS versions (BID 088DD) to the chip I believe is correct: GD25LQ128 (1.8 V, 16 MB).
Unfortunately the laptop is still completely dead—no power, no charge LED, no fan spin.

To move forward, I’d like to confirm a few points:

  1. Is there a separate EC (Embedded Controller) firmware?
    • If the EC firmware is on a separate SPI chip, could someone point out where the EC chip is located on the DAG3HIMB8C0 Rev:C motherboard (silkscreen label, coordinates, or a photo/arrow)?
    • If it’s combined with the main BIOS in the same chip, should I merge the “main BIOS + EC” into a single image before flashing, or are they meant to be programmed separately?
  2. Chip confirmation
    • Can you confirm that GD25LQ128 (1.8 V) is indeed the main BIOS target on this board, or is there a second SPI device I should program as well?

I have the hardware to flash both the BIOS and EC (SPI programmer with 1.8 V adapter, SOIC8 clip, SOP8 socket) and can re-program whatever you advise.
I can also provide my full SPI backup if you need it to rebuild a proper image.

Thanks a lot for your help and guidance!

Subject: Please clarify your request about the video

Hello,

I’m not sure I understand. Could you please clarify exactly what you need?

  • Do you want a full video tutorial showing the whole process (wiring the programmer, reading/verifying/erasing/writing the BIOS/EC, and first power-on)?
  • Or do you want me to use the HP website, download/extract the BIOS package, and send you a video showing only that part?

If a video is required, please confirm:

  1. Scope: main BIOS only, EC firmware, or both?
  2. Target board: DAG3HIMB8C0 Rev:C with BID 088DD (yes/no).
  3. Format & length: screen recording, hardware camera view, or both? Any time limit or language preference?
  4. Tools to show: CH341A + 1.8V adapter, software (e.g., CH341A Programmer/NeoProgrammer/ASProgrammer), checksum/verify steps, etc.

I can also provide:

  • Links to the exact HP download page I used,
  • The files I flashed (.bin/.sig, and my SPI backup),
  • Photos of the setup and pinout.

Once I have your confirmation, I’ll deliver exactly what you expect.

Thank you!
Stéphane
